XAir has identified several second tier population areas in Alaska that will support direct air service to Seattle. This is the culmination of several months spent analyzing market data, census information and industry trends.
The major population areas of Alaska (Anchorage, Fairbanks, Juneau) have scheduled non-stop flights to and from Seattle. Other Alaskan markets that have grown outside of the traditional Anchorage hub are connected to Seattle by primary and secondary air carriers. A few of these "second tier" areas have airports and population bases that justify direct Seattle service.
Provision of new service from Seattle to these communities poses several technical and financial challenges. It is easy to replicate existing flight service, less so to pioneer that which has not been done. Even more daunting is the march forward in the face of what will likely be fierce resistance from the established air carrier pecking order in Alaska.
